An easy loop itinerary along the bottom of a valley, partially along the Stra’ Granda, and ancient road of the Anzasca Valley, and partially along the mule tracks in the villages of Vanzone San Carlo.
Once past the church of San Carlo, continue along the main road for just over 100 m (328 ft) until you reach the Crotto Rosso, the river that, thanks to the springs with water containing iron and arsenic originating at the Cani mine, is ochre in colour. Just before the river, turn right to go to the small square behind the church where a trail begins, rising sharply to Pianezza. Continue along the hillside towards Ronchi di Fuori, once again crossing the Crotto Rosso River. From Ronchi, keep on towards Roletto and then Vanzone. After a walk through the houses of Vanzone and the oratory in the main square, descend down to take the Stra Granda (B00), which runs just below the street. The trail crosses a dirt track and when that is about to end, at the main road, continue along the trail that heads downhill. Cross the river and arrive at Battiggio with its pretty watchtower. Once back on the main road, continue for 150 m (492 ft) and then turn right onto the small road which leads downhill to a construction yard. Turn left to take the steps and emerge onto the bridge over the Crotto Rosso River.
