An easy loop itinerary on pretty mule tracks that connect Bognanco Fonti with San Lorenzo, the seat of the municipality, and then continue on to Graniga and La Gomba. For the past few years, the small town of Boco has been home to the “Boco Dipinta” (Boco Paints) initiative: a permanent exhibition of paintings, sculptures and ceramics on any theme the artist chooses. The works, displayed in open spaces and on the external walls of houses, are made from professional and amateur artists who have donated their creations to the exhibition (www.bocodipinta.it).
From the main square in Bognanco Fonti take the main street until the sharp turn in the small square with the fountain. From here, climb up in the direction of the church, cross the paved street once again and descend, heading slightly to the right, to begin the trail towards Boco-San Lorenzo. The trail rises with numerous sharp bends to reach Boco. From here, keep on the trail, staying on the line of the ridge until you come to Bacinasco. Cross through the town, with its 16th and 17th century houses, cross the street, pass by the house which is home of the Istituto Galletti of San Lorenzo, followed by the small square of the former train station and finally the square in front of the Church of Saint Lawrence (Chiesa di San Lorenzo). Continue along Via del Monscera (D00 trail marker) alternating stretches on the mule track with short stints on the vehicular road until reaching the hamlet of Graniga. Cross through the centre and from the washhouse head right towards the square in front of Ristorante Da Cecilia. Follow the street for approximately 300 m (984 ft) until coming to the trail that rises to the left, climbing through the woods with sharp bends until coming to Alpe Ronchetti. From here, in one last stretch, you will reach La Gomba.
Return to San Lorenzo by following the same itinerary. From the square with the church, a sign indicates the descending mule track (D00 trail maker). Pass the chapel, trace the left side of the cemetery and arrive at Camisanca. Continue along the pretty mule track that crosses the street a few times, pass Possetto and its Istituto Galletti School, and you will come to the intersection with the road with a turnoff for Boco. Descend to the church of Bognanco Fonti and finish the trip in the town’s main square.
