Start from the fountain of Agarina, where the paved street ends. Take the cattle path behind the fountain that leads up to the broad fields until you reach the cluster of baite (chalets) in Alpe la Motta. Trail L01 begins here, sharply rising with numerous quick curves. The climb is long and tiring, with stretches in the woods alternating with clearings and pastures. The trail becomes less and less evident, especially near the pastures. Once past the edge of the woods, you will soon reach the crossing with trail A04, which connects to Coipo. From here the trail becomes even more beautiful, a nice paved, wide mule track with stone steps and a less intense incline, to then quickly reach the Chapel of the Cross with its spectacular panoramic view. Follow trail L03, which shortly arrives at Alpe Lago via an easy hillside path. The bivouac is not currently operational. From the chalets, it’s a short climb to Lake Matogno, surrounded by vast alpine grasslands.
On the way back, follow the trail for Alpe Ratagina. Pay careful attention at the end of the fields under Alpe Ratagina, as the trailhead is easy to miss. Once you are in the forest, however, the path is easier to see as it steeply descends to Alpe Nocca. From here continue along the trail that extends along the valley floor, flanking the Nocca River. Before arriving at the bridge to return to Agarina, you can either take trail L03a (the Balmuzzign Trail), or cross the bridge and continue on to the Faugiol bridge. In both cases, you will eventually find yourself on the recently made service road for a hydroelectric power station that leads back to Agarina.

Notes:
Agarina is accessible from a paved street that is closed to traffic. During the summer it is possible to reach Agarina only on a few specific days. For more information, please contact the Municipality of Montecrestese (+39 0324 35106).
From Agarina until the intersection with route A04, the L01 trail is not always clear. Please be sure to pay close attention to the sparse trail markers.
