This itinerary connects the Stra’ Granda, the ancient road of the Anzasca Valley, taking a few detours along the way. It includes a continuous succession of churches, oratories, votive chapels and frescoes – all symbols of the time when faith was a support system for the difficulties and hardships faced in daily life ages ago.
The route departs from the village of Molini near the Locanda Bar Ristorante del Tiglio. Immediately after, a stairway leads to the church of the Madonna of Gurva below. Once back on the main road, return uphill for approximately 50 m (165 ft) towards Macugnaga then turn right onto the small street that rises towards Duiamem-Vigino until crossing the Stra’ Granda, the ancient road along the Anzasca Valley. Follow it towards Piedimulera until Molini, then turn left to take trail B00b which climbs to Vigino. The trail continues on to Boretta and descends gently to Antrogna with its pretty parish church. From there, walking along the Stra’ Granda, cross the river and arrive at Calasca Dentro. The mule track continues on into the woods, drops down to cross a stream with a pretty stone bridge and then rises again to the hamlet of Barzona, with its oratory and monument to mine workers. From here, it’s a twenty minute descent to Pontegrande, where you can take the bus to return to the departure point.
