General features:
The itinerary takes place on beautiful mule tracks through the ancient rural villages of Domodossola around the Sacro Monte Calvario fulcrum (Unesco Heritage).
The route:
From Domodossola station take Corso P. Ferraris, via F.lli di Dio and via Garibaldi and, crossed via G.G.Galletti, take via Rosmini and then via Mattarella towards Sacro Monte Calvario (UNESCO Heritage). Go up the Via Crucis and leave the III chapel behind, here begins the mule track that leads to the top of the Sacro Monte Calvario. From here, take the mule track that leads to San Defendente, then continue to Vallesone, with the oven and the old press. At the crossroads for Alpe Lusentino, turn right for the Motto and then continue to Andosso and Prata, then descend to Maggianigo, the capital of the ancient municipality of Vagna, autonomous until 1928 and which grouped all these villages. Continue towards the cemetery and the chapel of the "Posa dei Morti" to reach Motto from where, turning left, you will go down to Premone and then back to the Sacro Monte Calvario. Then, following the outward road, you will return to Domodossola station. Don’t forget to visit the historic center!
