General features
The route follows the village roads and the beautiful “Veia di Bröcc” paved mule track that from Ponte Boldrini to Bertonio climbs to the Church of Trasquera. Until 1961, the year of construction of the carriage road, the mule track was the only access to Trasquera.
Some votive chapels embellish the path that connects the parish church of Varzo to the one of Trasquera.

The route
From the square of the Varzo railway station, take the road that climbs to the right, cross the old state road and continue straight on following the direction "centro" along Viale Castelli until you will reach the parish church of San Giorgio. In front of the tourist office, cross the stream and follow Via Zanalda uphill to the oratory of San Rocco in the Alneda hamlet. Continue on flat on via Alneda between stone houses until crossing the main road that goes up to San Domenico. On the left you will see a beautiful building with a turret: it is the Ente di Gestione delle Aree Protette dell’Ossola. Take via Galtarossa which continues on level ground and follow it until you will reach Bertonio locality. In correspondence with the Antica Osteria, cross the old Simplon road. With a short stretch on the sidewalk, follow the main road until you will reach the Boldrini bridge which crosses the Cairasca stream. The mule track starts immediately after the bridge, on the right. Go up for many hairpin bends between beech and chestnut trees (possible stops at the Cappella del Pianzolo and Cappella del Sasso) up to the parish church of Trasquera, located in a suggestive position on a rock overlooking the valley. Continue on the main road via Alpi Lepontine until you reach the center of the town. From Trasquera it is possible to get off at the Iselle railway station along the Kirsch and Tulips route.
