The alternative stage, which allows the connection with the neighboring Switzerland, starts from Riale where after passing the first houses of the village, on the right is located the path that follows in part and abundantly cuts the track that leads to the Maria Luisa Refuge and the Toggia dam. After a steeper first stretch, leaving the crossroads for Lake Nero on the right, the track flattens and allows you to arrive in about one hour to the Maria Luisa refuge and continue along the Toggia lake to the right. You will gradually rise on the wide pastures above the lake and, after leaving the track on the left that leads to the pastures of the Alpe Regina, you will reach a stretch of track that is deeply eroded and ruined at a short distance to Passo San Giacomo, about an hour from the refuge. After passing the wooden cross and the old sentry box, you will enter Swiss territory. Follow the path on the left that runs along the coast of Val Corno, and shortly you will arrive at the Cas Corno di Gries hut. From here you will quickly descend to Alpe Cruina.
