This is an alternative path which goes back up the whole Cairasca Valley touching upon many of the lower Alpine pastures of Varzo. This track has become part of the Alpine Pastures Without Boundaries Tours complex of tracks which join up Veglia, Devero, and Formazza, with Airolo in Canton Ticino (in Switzerland).
At Varzo, by the Park Offices a multimedia museum tells the archeological story of these valleys and in particular of the Mesolithic hunters which 8,000 years ago frequented the Veglia basin in order to hunt.
The itinerary starts from the Varzo historical town centre. We take the nice mule track that goes back up the left-hand-side of the river and crosses Varzo up to the Colla area. From here onwards we go towards the Castell area and thus take the trail which goes up to Coggia and the Nava Alp. From here follow the directions labeled “Naturalist Path” ( “Sentiero Naturalistico”) which takes us through a series of Alpine pastures around Varzo up to the Fairies’ Wood and then to Saint Domenico.
