General features:
Trontano, a town at the entrance to Vigezzo Valley, is a municipality in Val Grande National Park, lying on a large terrace that opens onto Toce plain. It is a land of stone, wine, the "Prunent", and bread, the "pansègla", bread made of rye flour. It is a concrete model where the "mountain rural civilization" that has permeated the life of the valley for many centuries is still immediately perceptible in the landscape and in the human environment. From Trontano, where environmental education laboratories of CEA of Trontano of Formont reside, you can reach the Mills of Brook Graglia, restored and functioning.
The route:
From Trontano railway station, Formont Environmental Education Center (CEA) can be reached in a few minutes by going down the road, near the sports field. From CEA go back to the parish church of S. Maria, then along Via P. Ferraris reach the town hall, skirting it and going up Via Verdi. Just before the junction with Via Viscardi and Via Cocco, a track goes on the left between scattered houses, crossing the hamlets of Ventriago and Cocco, skirting until you cross the paved road again; follow it until the end to continue on path. Once reached the road for Verigo, walk on it for a short distance, taking the path a little further. After crossing the railway tracks, go down to the bridge over Brook Graglia, reaching the locality "I Mulìt", due to the presence of a series of ancient stone mills, today partly restored and transformed into an open-air museum. A comfortable path leads from the mills to the ancient village of Verigo, surrounded by vineyards and cultivated fields. From here the return is possible both by train and on foot following the paved road and up to the mills, and therefore along the same path forward.
